I made some SW caps out of champagne bottles, which are a poor choice as the glass contains iron. They worked well for a long time, although if you look at the picture you can see that one is no longer connected. This is because one day arcs came spouting out the side, and it arcs over now as soon as voltage is applied.

These caps have been used and abused in a fashion that would have killed any other cap. and they were almost free. These caps ran a coil powered by a 15kV/120mA NST for an hour! Sure they were warm and bubbling, but they didn't fail.

I have collected eight HDPE hydrogen peroxide bottles that I intend to make into a Geek style bucket cap. While less than ½ the volume of the champagne bottles, they measure 50% more capacitance.
