Neon sign transformers are great for HV projects. They are also potentially LETHAL. They should under no circumstances be used by untrained personnel. They are easy to get from neon sign shops, I have gotten most of mine for free. I have mostly had Allanson and Franceformer NST, and have yet to blow one. The reason for not blowing them is: SAFETY GAPS AND A FRITZ RF FILTER! Without these, you are gonna kill your NST. And then you will cry.
